A common counterargument to the claim that backgammon bots cheat is that backgammon bots have no reason to cheat. To this I say BULL! If bots lost time and again to top players then the sales of these teaching versions would go down because who would want to learn from software that isn’t good enough to know how to beat ANYONE? After all, if I want to learn to play like a pro, shouldn’t I be learning from software that is able to beat the pros? This, my friends, seems like an excellent reason for bots to cheat and to say that they have no reason is crazy!

And in what way would you claim that bots are cheating? After all, their plays are all legal as they are teaching us to make correct moves. They never move their checkers any more or less than the numbers on the dice. So I guess that the only way for a bot to “cheat” would be by altering its own dice to its advantage. However, if a company produced a backgammon bot or backgammon software that did not have truly random dice software they would soon be found out. There has never been any research done to prove that any backgammon software or site is not using a truly random dice throw.

Most bots wouldn’t need to cheat because they do play at a world class level. Of course, if they play against world class players they have just as good odds of winning as they do of losing. What can I say, there are just some players out there who can outsmart these bots!

Bots are programmed to make certain moves under certain circumstances without regard to the next move. They don’t have the foresight that humans have and that is why, while most of the time they are able to beat us they can’t beat us always. But then again, who wants to play against a bot that ALWAYS wins? It sort of takes the fun out it, eh? World class players are able to beat bots on occasion because they are just that—world class players! They are the best!

I am of the opinion that people who accuse bots of cheating are just sore losers. You can blame dice or whatever you want, but you just have to face up to the fact that you need to improve your game or that your luck just isn’t all it could be. Stop being bitter and just have fun and enjoy the game!

If you want to make the argument that bots cheat giving an incentive that they may have isn’t enough. If you are charging the bots of cheating then prove it. It hasn’t been proven up until now, even though thorough research has been done and lawsuits have even been threatened but haven’t been able to prove a thing. As soon as you can show me, with real numbers and facts, that bots are cheating I will pay attention to your empty argument.
