Where can I play backgammon online?

I recently bought a backgammon board because I thought the game seemed fun and wanted to start playing. I thought that maybe my girlfriend or some of my friends would be interested in playing with me, but none of them have any desire to learn to play. Now I’ve given up on playing real backgammon because I don’t have any real opponents, so I wondered if anyone could tell me how I can get a backgammon game for my computer. I’d prefer something free and I don’t really care about playing for money. I just want to play and learn the game. Thanks.

First of all, playing backgammon online is “real” backgammon against “real” players. The rules are the same and you are playing against real people all over the world. It’s pretty cool actually.

Now, on to the topic of where you can play! I am pretty sure that most backgammon websites (if not all) will allow you to download their software for free and you won’t have to pay any money to play unless you want to play with real money stakes. You will be able to play against other people who are just playing for fun and don’t want to bet real money. Aside from that, there are several free downloads of backgammon games that will also give you pointers and tips for improvement, which can be good if you are just learning to play.

Also, why don’t you look for a backgammon club in your area? Then you can play on a real board off the web and even make some new friends while you’re at it.
