When you are playing backgammon for stakes, things can sometimes take a turn for the worse. In the event that you find you are losing you can offer up a resignation to your opponent and stop the game at any given point. If they accept, you can forfeit the game for minimal points. There is always, however, the question of when to resign in backgammon.
There are several ways to decide when to resign in backgammon. The first reason for a resignation is simply to save time when it is clear that your opponent is winning. If your opponent has one checker left to bear off and you still have three checkers outside of your home board, you can resign for a two-point gammon loss just to save time and start the next game of the match.
You can also decide when to resign in backgammon based on the level of your opponent's game. If you see that your opponent is about to beat you with a backgammon, which is a three-point win, you can try to resign ahead of this for a mere two-point loss. If your opponent is about to beat you with a gammon, you can try to resign ahead of this for a one-point loss.
Now you know when to resign in backgammon, although when you offer to resign in a game you always face the possibility that your opponent will turn you down. However, you can always try to resign to salvage some points. |
