Let us explain the backgammon straight race position: Backgammon is a game that is played between two players, with the objective to move all fifteen checkers across the backgammon board, through the home board and off the board altogether. The first player to do so is the winner of the game (and any stakes). Although some argue that luck plays an important role in the final outcome of the game, it is generally understood that players need to have excellent skills throughout the game in the way they maneuver their checkers and protect them from attack by the opponent's checkers.
However, there comes a point in the backgammon game where there is no more contact between players. There is no more opportunity to hit or defend and, essentially, the players have reached a point where they have bypassed the opponent's checkers. This is where the backgammon straight race method comes in: It is simply the point in the game where players begin to worry solely about getting their checkers to their home board and bearing off their checkers in order to win the game.
The point where contact is broken off between players is therefore the point that the game turns into a backgammon straight race. Another name for this type of game is 'pure race'. Both the names backgammon straight race and pure race thus mean exactly what they imply - a pure (or straight) race between the two opponents to the finish line, without worrying about any other attack or defense strategies along the way. |
