Most of us are aware of the basic principles of backgammon. It is a board game played between two players who compete to get all their fifteen checkers across the backgammon board and then off the board altogether. The first person that does this is the winner of the game. However, once you understand the basic principles, you need to master other, deeper principles such as the backgammon Six-Point.
Basically, the backgammon Six-Point is a particular position on the board. The backgammon board is divided into four quadrants, each with six long, triangle-shaped spots called points. The backgammon Six-Point is thus the sixth point on the backgammon board and each player has one. This is by far the most popular point on the board as it where the players aim to rest their checkers before moving them off the board altogether in a bid to win the game. Statistics show that the more checkers a player gets on this point, the more chance he has of winning the game.
Obviously, backgammon is not as simple as it seems and there are a number of things that we need to take into account when using the backgammon Six-Point. For example, you should always aim to have at least two of your checkers on this point because you don't want to expose a single checker to being attacked by your opponent’s and therefore having to begin moving that checker off the bar and back across the board again. |
