Are you familiar with some of the common mistakes featuring the doubling cube in a game of backgammon? A sound knowledge and understanding of when to use the cube is crucial in advanced backgammon play. If you're one of those players who avoid using the cube due to a lack of confidence in your decision-making skills, the following information is for you.
So your game of backgammon is going well. You've obtained a strong position on the board by making the best of the opening rolls and feel confident that you're ahead with your advanced backgammon play. So when your opponent offers you the doubling cube, you accept it. But what happens if you're not certain about the position you're in. This is when you need to ask yourself what course of action your opponent would take if he were in your position.
It pays to be just as aware of your opponent's position in the game as you are of your own. Never let your opponent rattle you by finding you unprepared when he offers you the doubling cube. A part of advanced backgammon play is the ability to know what to do in all circumstances. Generally, you should accept the cube if you feel you are 65 percent sure of winning the game. You should feel 75 percent confident of winning the game in the final stages before you offer the cube to your opponent in turn.
If your opponent fails to offer you the cube when you are expecting it, don't be discouraged. Play on and keep a strong eye on your advanced backgammon play. If it is offered a few turns later, stick to the original decision you made when you expected the cube and decline it or accept it based on this. |
