Backgammon is one of the most enjoyable games around. Easy to learn, you can play in competition, with friends or backgammon online! With these basic backgammon instructions, you’ll be playing in no time!
Before going into more complicated backgammon instructions, it is important to understand the basic objectives of the game. The objective of backgammon is to move all of your checkers around the board to a quadrant called the home board and then to bear your checkers off the board and out of the game. The player that accomplishes this first is the winner.
Now that you understand the objective of backgammon, we’ll get into basic backgammon instructions. Backgammon consists of a board with four quadrants, which is divided by a bar. Each quadrant has triangular points along which the players advance their checkers. Players roll two backgammon dice to advance their checkers. Each die can be used to move one checker, or the player may choose to total their dice and move one checker the total number of pips, or dice points.
Players must move their checkers the exact number found on the dice but cannot land on points occupied by two or more opposing checkers. If you land on a point with one opposing checker, known as a blot, you move the blot back to the bar, setting back your opponents game. Once you have advanced all your checkers to the home board you roll exact dice rolls to remove your checkers from the board.
Now that you understand these basic backgammon instructions you are ready to play! |
