Looking for ways to increase your understanding and improve your performance in a game of backgammon? If so, you need to find information on backgammon strategy to help you formulate and stick to a game plan.
Backgammon strategy is what separates lucky players from clever players. Ask any advanced backgammon player how a game of backgammon is won and he will say that it comes down to basic strategy and how well a player uses it in his game plan. He will also say that the ability to employ several strategies at once is important, along with knowing when to discard those that are not working in the course of a game.
Generally backgammon strategy is divided into two areas. To play an aggressive game, a player needs to know how to use the doubling cube to his advantage and how to move his checkers to the most advantageous positions on the board in the opening rolls. He needs to learn how to move his checkers quickly across the board in a running game and how to hit the checkers belonging to his opponent whenever the opportunity presents itself.
The second area of backgammon strategy is defensive. Among the strategies designed to slow an opponent down is the practise of building a wall of checkers or an anchor in a strategic place on the board. Taking control of the backgammon board is crucial by erecting anchors on the fourth, fifth and sixth points. Playing a skilful backgame is also useful as backgamers are notoriously difficult to combat. Understanding all aspects of an opponent's game can also help defend checkers against his hits and can speed up a player's race to his home board. |
