Anybody, young and old, can learn the rules of backgammon, and loutraki especially. Loutraki is a variation of backgammon and is a game that is easily understood. The main objective of backgammon and loutraki is to move the checkers off your home board as soon as you possibly can. To do this, you need to focus on developing a fine balance between offence and defense throughout your game.
Backgammon and loutraki are played with 15 checkers per player across a board that is divided into four quadrants with six points each. Each player gets a turn to throw a die to see who begins and the one with the highest number goes first. If a player throws a three and a four, for example, he can either move one checker four spaces and the other three, or he can move one checker seven times. Checkers can’t be moved to just any point on the board in backgammon and loutraki. The point needs to be free, or occupied by the player's own checkers. If only one of the opponent's checkers is on the point, the player can land there and send that checker to the raised ridge on the board called the bar.
Backgammon and loutraki are games of fun and entertainment, with a good dosage of luck thrown in. However, they depend mostly on the player's skill level. With a basic understanding of the rules and strategy of the game, as well as a lot of practice, players can become experts in backgammon and loutraki. |
