Looking for a new game to play when you travel? There's nothing like a game of travel backgammon to help you relax over long and tedious journeys. In fact, you'll want to commute more often once you start playing backgammon!
Travel backgammon can be played easily using a backgammon board, two dice and 30 checkers (15 for each player.) If you want to make the game even more interesting and perhaps win a little cash for your efforts, you will also need a doubling cube. This is an object which is similar in appearance to a dice but which has the numbers 2, 4, 8. 16. 32 and 64 displayed on its surfaces. The doubling cube keeps track of the wagers in a game and is used to raise the stakes by a player if the game is going in his favor.
The main purpose of travel backgammon is to be the first player to bear off or remove your checkers from the backgammon board. This is done after you have transported all your checkers to your home board from the outer board. Checker movement is dictated by the two dice. For each turn, a player tosses the dice and moves his checkers the total amount they show. You can move one die per checker or one checker the full amount shown on both dice.
The rules to travel backgammon are fairly straight-forward and easy to memorize. However, the difference between a good player and a struggling backgammon fan is how well you learn strategy and adapt it to fit your game. You can find information on the latest backgammon strategies and techniques by visiting online backgammon sites and forums and by picking up copies of the best gaming magazines. |
