If you are new to the game of backgammon, the direction of movement can take a little while to get used to. This is because the direction of the backgammon game is different for each player.
In the game of backgammon, two players race to see who can get all of their checkers to their home board and borne off the board first. The players’ home boards are across from each other and all of their checkers are set up across from each other. Then the players move in opposite directions, against each other. The direction of the backgammon game is clockwise for one player and counterclockwise for the other player.
Therefore, the game is like a battle between the two sides trying to break through to get home. As they cross each other, the opponents can create blockades to trap their opponent, and even attack by hitting opposing blots and sending them back to the bar where they must re-enter the game as far as possible from their home board. If the direction of the backgammon game was the same for both players, there wouldn’t be nearly as much excitement and competition.
There are other variations on the backgammon game as well. Some start with different set ups, however the rules are usually the same and the direction of the backgammon game remains the same. There are exceptions to this rule, where both players move in the same direction, but these games are move of a race and less strategy is involved. |
