The game of backgammon has specific rules and conditions that need to be applied when playing the game. One of the things that new players learn is the backgammon board set-up. The backgammon board is divided into four, with each quadrant containing six triangles called points. Each player in the game has fifteen checkers and before the game begins, these checkers need to be placed on the board in specific positions on the points. This information is vital to know when performing a backgammon board set-up.
Players first need to decide who gets the white checkers and who gets the black. Thereafter, they check that there are indeed fifteen checkers for each. Players then begin with the backgammon board set-up. Each player places two checkers on the twenty fourth point and five checkers on the thirteenth point. Three checkers are then placed on the eighth point and a further five on the sixth point. The opponent will place his or her checkers in the same configuration opposite yours.
As can be seen in the backgammon board set-up, checkers are not simply placed 'randomly'. The reason that checkers are placed in specific points is that the positioning of checkers on the board of utmost importance for the eventual outcome of the game. Checkers are used to create offensives and defenses throughout the game, with the stronger player winning in the end, based on how he or she managed to maneuver the checkers across the board and off the backgammon board altogether. |
