When learning a new game it is very important to know how to set it up to be ready to play, and backgammon is no exception. The backgammon setup is treaty much straight forward and there is nothing too complicated that might confuse you.
The first ting to notice about backgammon setup is that on the board there are elongated triangles each called a point. These triangles are arranged in alternating colours of light and dark and are divided into four groups with six in each. There are two main areas of the backgammon board being the outer and inner (home) board. Dividing these two boards is a raised line down the centre called the bar. That is the essential backgammon setup, it might sound a little confusing but it actually is really easy.
Each player receives 15 game pieces, either dark or light in colour. According to backgammon setup the normal order of the game pieces is two pieces on each player's 24th point, five on each player's 13th point, three on the 8th point and on each player' 6th point, 5 pieces.
The aim of the game of backgammon is to get all of your pieces from around the board onto your home board. When you have achieved this it is time to go for gold and bear off. Bearing off is when you start removing the pieces out of the game. The first player to do this is the winner and gets the cash! |
