I have been playing backgammon for a long time and I love to play.
I play on a few different sites but there is one common thread that I’ve found amongst the players on all of them, and it isn’t pretty!
I have found that if I am winning a game (and I mean REALLY winning a game) my opponents frequently try to resign the game. Especially when it is clear that I’m going to win by backgammoning them for three points they try to resign for one point!
Personally, I find this attempt to be highly offensive—are these people too proud to lose or are they just trying to cheat me out of the extra points I could win? In any event, I stand by the ideals that once you start something you should finish it, even if it’s only a simple game and you are losing. |

Well, in some cases when it’s been obvious I’m going to win a game my opponent simply disconnects. At least your opponents are asking you to accept a resignation. I understand your frustration with them trying to resign for a smaller loss, but put yourself in their shoes, you might do it too.
I do think that if your opponent is offering a resignation when one point will still win you the match then you should take it. For instance, if you are already ahead 2-1 or 2-0 in a three-point match then just give them the resignation. Why take the extra time out just to embarrass them with a three-point win that isn’t even necessary for your success in the match? |
