The growing popularity of the backgammon board game over recent years has led to an increasing literature of books that explain the basics of the game and that provide ideas for improving backgammon strategy. Whether a player is a novice, or they consider themselves a backgammon expert, a list of recommended backgammon books invariably includes some reading matter they could gain from reading.
A good offering to start a list of recommended backgammon books with is Osward/Jacoby's "The Backgammon Book." These two leading backgammon players wrote this book about 30 years ago, and it remains popular. It is seen as a fundamental work of backgammon literature that sets out all the beginning player needs to know, while also including a solid introduction to developing winning backgammon strategies.
Another book high on the list of recommended backgammon books is Bill Robertie's "Backgammon for Winners". This is more suitable to players who already have some skills in the game. It includes sample games and penetrating analysis of the moves involved.
In light of the number of people drawn to backgammon gaming, it would be proper to also include in one's recommended backgammon books Joe Dwek's "Backgammon for Profit". This book is full of problems, diagrams and analysis to help the reader understand a wide variety of backgammon gaming situations and be able to work out the best move to make in each situation.
Roy Friedman's "World Class Backgammon Move by Move" is definitely a good book for advanced players. It makes excellent use of diagrams with scientific analysis of various positions and concepts in backgammon gaming. |
