When it comes to finding recommended backgammon books, many people only see two options - the first is Backgammon by Paul Magriel and the second is Walter Trice's Backgammon Boot Camp.
Paul Magriel's Backgammon is one of the most recommended backgammon books of all time. It has even been referred to as the Bible of Backgammon! First published in 1976, this book gives a thorough introduction to nearly every aspect of the game of backgammon. From rules of the game to professional strategy and techniques, this book runs the gamut. Some have criticized the book due to the fact that it is outdated because it was published in 1976. Although some of the "answers" the books give to strategic questions may be slightly outdated the theory behind the strategy of the game that the book offers is invaluable. The book is available in hardback and soft cover. The hardback is a bit expensive as this book is highly sought after, but the content of the soft cover is identical and is much cheaper.
Another one of the most highly recommended backgammon books is Walter Trice's Backgammon Boot Camp. This book goes hand in hand with Magriel's book in offering coverage on a broad range of topics, from strategy to the most basic fundamental concepts. Published in 2004, this book covers several more recent concepts that Magriel does not and it is a wonderful book for any serious backgammon player.
These recommended backgammon books are aimed more towards intermediates but can be helpful for players at every skill level. |
