Both limit poker and no limit poker are commonly offered on online poker gaming sites, and the nature of these games and their rules do differ. While the limit poker game restricts wager to the size of the pot, in the No limit poker you are allowed to wager any amount at any time, up to the amount of chips you have purchased.
Nevertheless, in the holdem version of poker, all the wagers need to be at least the size of the big blind that is the first, and largest of the blinds (or wagers) commonly made at the start of the game. In addition, whenever wagers are raised, the raise needs to be at least the same size as the previous raises in this round. Thus, if the last raise of the round was $10, the next raise must be at least $10.
The no limit poker game also has its own rules for determining when wagers are valid. For example, if a player says he is wagering $15 but only puts $10 of chips down, the value of their wager goes according to the amount they stated rather than the amount of chips put down. Due to the flexibility regarding the amount wagered in no limit poker, there also has to be some means of settling misunderstandings. For example, one of the online poker sites suggests disallowing claims of a wager being misunderstood if the maker of that wager has placed at least 80% of the amount they stated down on the table. |
