If you're a fan of board games, you'll probably appreciate how much fun it can be learning to play a new game. Learning how to play backgammon is highly enjoyable, simple and can give you hours of fun and excitement. It can also lead to some useful extra cash if you're serious about developing your skills.
Firstly, let's look at what you will need to play backgammon. 15 checkers are required for each player, along with two dice, a backgammon board and a doubling cube if you want to try your luck at gambling on your game. The dice are used to indicate the number of spaces a checker can be moved around the board. The board itself is separated by a bar down the center and consists of 24 points or triangles which represent an outer board and a home board area for both players.
The object of the game is to be the first player to move all your checkers to your home board area and bear them off the board. When you play backgammon, one checker can be moved the number of spaces indicated on one die. Or you can move one checker the total amount of spaces shown on both dice. Checkers can be moved to any open point or a point occupied by your own checkers or one belonging to your opponent.
If you move onto a space that is already home to your opponent's checker, you are "hitting" it. This checker or blot must be returned to the bar and replayed into the game. Obviously hitting your opponent's checkers is a good strategy because it will slow him down while you bring your checkers safely home. When you play backgammon and are the first person to remove all your checkers from the board, you are the winner. |
