One of the best things about the game of backgammon is that you can take it with you on your travels and find players all over the world. Pack your travel backgammon set in your backpack and you are bound to meet fellow enthusiasts everywhere you go.
There are many travel backgammon sets on the market for a small price, and they pack up easily. You can even find magnetic sets, so you don't have to worry about losing the checkers.
In certain parts of the world, you can find public backgammon boards in parks or squares, and you may see crowds gathered round to watch a game. This is the perfect way to meet some locals and learn a bit about the local customs.
An alternative way to play backgammon on the move is to play online. There are many backgammon websites which let you play free of charge at all different levels, for fun or for real money.
If you want to play travel backgammon, here are the essentials:
- You need two players, a board, thirty checkers and two dice.
- The players move round the board in opposite directions.
- The aim is to get all your checkers into your home board - the first six points on your side.
- On each move, roll both dice and move according to the number thrown.
- Any single checker can be captured by the opponent.
- Once your checkers are all in your home board, you can start bearing off. Roll the dice, and take off a checker in the point corresponding to the number rolled.
- The winner is the player who gets all their checkers off the board first.
Backgammon is quick to learn and a lot of fun, a great travelling past-time. |
