Nackgammon is a variant of the backgammon game. It is more strategy oriented and less fast paced then the original. If you already know how to play the backgammon game, then there is only one more thing to learn before you are ready to play. If you want your backgammon games to be more of a cerebral challenge and less of a race, nackgammon is just the thing for you.
Nackgammon is played on the same backgammon board, with the same checkers and dice, and with the same rules. The only real difference is in the starting position. Nackgammon has more of your checkers further away from your base, which means that players have less protected checkers to attack with at home, and more checkers at the back of the board to close points with, and build up control of the board. This makes the game more about building up your strength and control of the board, and less about attacking and racing home. The result is a much more strategic slow paced game. You should really try it out.
As we mentioned above, the only actual difference between the backgammon game and nackgammon is in the starting position. Fortunately, the nackgammon starting position is similar to the traditional starting position, so the best way to learn nackgammon setup is by starting out with the good old backgammon setup. Then simply shift one checker each from the 6 and 13 points, and place both on the 23 point. After doing this a few times, you should be able to setup a nackgammon game from scratch. Now all that is left for you to do, is to enjoy this exciting new game! |
