Download Backgammon SoftwareDo you have a grasp of the basic backgammon rules? Know how to set up the backgammon board and feel confident about moving your checkers around the board? If so, you're ready to step up and try backgammon for amateurs. This involves developing your skills and learning basic strategies to prevent your opponent from bearing his checkers off the board before you do so.

One of first pieces of advice we can give you is the importance of knowing your opponent's game plan. The more you study your opponent's moves, the more you will become familiar with his favorite strategies and his use of the backgammon board. By asking yourself simple questions on your opponent's performance, you can size him up and adapt your game plan to counteract his. Some common questions you can ask yourself may relate to his gambling technique. How well does he use the doubling cube to his advantage in a game? What types of strategies does he favor and is he usually an aggressive or defensive player? These considerations will help you improve your game of backgammon for amateurs.

You will also need to increase your awareness of common backgammon strategy. Do you know how to adopt a running strategy? This is simply by moving your checkers around the board as fast as you can while avoiding potential hits. This needs to be done in tandem with another backgammon strategy to be truly effective. You could try adding a priming strategy to the mix, which is where you build a wall of checkers that will cover six of the board's points. Or you may wish to boost your game of backgammon for amateurs by blocking your home board to keep your opponent's hit checkers on the bar.

If just some of this advice works for you, then you are well on the way to successfully mastering backgammon for amateurs.
