Do you want to try a game of backgammon? The following information will teach you the basics of how to play a backgammon game, including how to set up the backgammon board and how to move your checkers around it.
Let's take a look at the backgammon board. 24 triangles make up the board, which is roughly divided into four areas: an outer board and a home board for each player. A bar separates the board in half and this is where checkers that are hit must reside until they are played back into a game. Learning how to set up the backgammon board is relatively simple. The direction each player will move his checkers depends on their color. Each player has 15 checkers which he must move toward his home board area.
As well as learning how to set up the backgammon board, you will need to be familiar with the doubling cube and the backgammon dice. The doubling cube is an object with six sides that will represent the current wager in a game. The backgammon dice have rounded corners and are generally transparent. The pip count displayed on their surfaces will indicate how many spaces you can move your checkers on the board.
Once you know how to set up the backgammon board, you're ready to start playing. The player who has the first turn must roll the dice and move his checkers the total number of spaces indicated by the pip count. He can move one checker per die or one checker for both dice. The player who moves all his checkers to his home board and bears them off successfully is the winner of the backgammon game. |
