Backgammon, the oldest recorded board game, has gained recent popularity since it was made available for online play. People all over the world are playing against each other in this exciting game of strategy and luck. Even if you know nothing about the game it is incredibly easy to learn the rules and begin playing backgammon for amateurs.
If you want to play backgammon, you first need to understand the objective of the game. A backgammon board is made up of four quadrants called your home board and out board and the home and out boards of your opponent. The goal is to move your checkers around the board on triangular points, based on the roll of two dice, to your home board and then to bear them off the board. You must accomplish this task before your opponent in order to win the game. On your way, you cannot land on a point with two or more opposing checkers. If you land on one opposing checker this checker is sent to the bar and must re-enter the board through your home board. Now that you understand these basics you are ready to start practicing backgammon for amateurs.
There are many online backgammon servers that offer backgammon at all different levels - backgammon for amateurs, intermediates and experts. These sites are a good place to practice. Another good learning tool that teaches backgammon for amateurs is GNU free backgammon software. This software analyzes your game and gives you tips for improvement and is a great way to take your game from amateur to pro! |
