Download Backgammon SoftwareBackgammon is a fairly easy game to pick up and once you start, it's a steep learning curve. Here is a rundown of the backgammon instructions to help you on your way.

The game is played on a standard board, with twenty four points, or triangular spaces. Two players each have fifteen pieces, called checkers. One player plays black, the other plays white. There are also two dice, a rolling cup and a doubling cube.

The goal is to get all of your checkers round the board and into your home board, which consists of the first six points on your side. Each player begins with two of his or her checkers in the opponent's home board, and the rest dispersed over the whole board. Once you have moved your checkers into your home board, the aim is to count them all off - the winner being the first to achieve this.

There are some dangers lurking along the way - backgammon instructions state that your opponent can capture any lone checkers, so it's best to also keep them together, although this is not always possible. If you get caught, or hit, your checker goes to the bar in the centre of the board and on the next turn, you can try to set it free, by rolling the dice. If you roll a number corresponding to a free space in the opponent's home board, you can re-enter the game; if not, you cannot move any other checkers until you do.

Backgammon instructions are fairly straightforward, but it's important to follow them if you are playing seriously - for example if the dice does not fall flat, the roll is invalid and the player must roll again.
Now you know the basic rules of the game - good luck!
