The next time you and your opponent want to rate your games when you're playing backgammon for amateurs, try the following. Decide upon a set number of games that you will play. If you play ten games, the player that wins the majority of these games is the better player. Even if you are very close in most of them, winning just six games out of ten will prove statistically that you are a strong player.

Determining your level in backgammon is useful because you will eventually want to take on more advanced players.
