You don't have to be a professional to enjoy playing online backgammon. Backgammon for amateurs can be found at nearly every online backgammon site. You can easily find opponents of the same level and you can even play for free if you lack the confidence to risk money on your game.
An aspect of playing backgammon for amateurs that is highly advantageous to most players is the ability it gives you to test your skills and discover if you are a stronger player than your opponent. Perhaps you play regularly against the same opponent and want to improve your amateur level? Or do you want to work out who is the better player and who will be the first to leave the amateur ranks behind?
The next time you and your opponent want to rate your games when you're playing backgammon for amateurs, try the following. Decide upon a set number of games that you will play. If you play ten games, the player that wins the majority of these games is the better player. Even if you are very close in most of them, winning just six games out of ten will prove statistically that you are a strong player.
Determining your level in backgammon is useful because you will eventually want to take on more advanced players. If you do so without a full awareness of how well you play, you may find that both your pocket and your confidence suffer. Backgammon for amateurs is a fun and challenging pastime but you should prepare yourself for a new level of competition when you start playing advanced opponents. |
