| I have a few questions about international backgammon tournament rules. Are there any specific rules that apply to all international tournaments? As far as format, prizes and other rules go, where can I find a list of international tournament rules? Do the biggest tournaments in the world share all the same rules? Also, is there a world organization for backgammon such as we have FIFA for soccer and other organizations for other sports? I hope someone can answer my questions. |

There is no world organization for backgammon. The organizers for each tournament set the rules, although the rules are usually pretty consistent between tournaments. There is a generally accepted set of rules that are used in both US backgammon tournaments and in tournaments around the world. You can find them listed on many online backgammon websites. There are also a few links to good information found at www.chicagopoint.com. If there is a problem or question about the rules in an international tournament setting then the tournament director will usually make the call.
Backgammon tournaments on the international level are also often determined by the backgammon tournament rules of the country in which the tournament is happening. However, in other words, because there are no international rules in place the rules are pretty much determined by the tournament organizers.
If you have any questions you can probably contact people who have directed international tournaments over the years which you should also be able to find from the Chicago Point website. |
