The first thing you must know is that backgammon is a game of strategy. With this said it is important to learn different strategies and to choose a play that is consistent with the position that you will find yourself in when you are playing. A good game plan for one game that makes you a champion might be your demise in another, it is for this reason that you should always pick your plays carefully. This will only happen with practice and experience. You are an intermediate backgammon player, who knows that this game is not for the faint hearted nor for the player that has not got a good head for strategy.
The game of backgammon is a race to the finish. Who will bear off before the other with as many points as possible? That is the defining question. As an intermediate backgammon player, you know how to play the game, now it is time to learn how to take the lead and win. Your over all plan is to move your pieces round the board and off in the fastest possible way while preventing your opponent from doing the same. If you find yourself behind in the race to the finish then do something about it, for example containing one of your opponent's checkers before forcing him to leave you a shot which will allow you to hit.
Many intermediate backgammon players fall make this mistake of not following good advice and choosing a strategy that matches their racing status in the game that is being played at that precise moment. By taking good advice and putting it into practice you can go from being a good intermediate backgammon player to a champion expert backgammon player. |
