Are you looking for some simple instructions to play backgammon? If so, read on. Learning the rules will soon have you playing and winning.
Firstly, you need to learn the object of the game. Backgammon is played by two opponents and is a race around the board. Each opponent must move 15 checkers around the board using two dice to dictate the number of spaces moved. These checkers are arranged on points on the backgammon board and begin the game in three rows. Each player must transport all his checkers safely to his home board while avoiding “hits” from his opponent. Once there, he must roll the dice to remove each checker from the board. The first player to do so wins the game.
As you can see the basic instructions to play backgammon are relatively straightforward. But what happens if your opponent hits one of your checkers? This is where backgammon gets interesting. Each player is trying his best to slow his opponent down. By hitting another player's checkers, you are in effect removing that checker from the game. Hit checkers, or blots, are placed on the board's center bar. A player must roll the dice to re-enter a hit checker into the game before he plays any other checker.
Before trying your hand at a game, it is recommended that you find instructions to play backgammon that offer diagrams or a step by step guide on how to get started. Once you feel confident that you have mastered the basics, you should search for information on strategy, tips and how to use the doubling cube for the purpose of gambling. Even the most advanced players still benefit from the high level instructions to play backgammon that can be found in professional books and magazines. Good luck! |
