Download Backgammon SoftwareOne of the most challenging instructions on backgammon for new players to grasp is understanding how to use the doubling cube. The cube presents a series of questions for players that are new to internet backgammon and the live version of the game; the main one being the correct time to offer the doubling cube to an opponent.

The doubling cube was introduced to backgammon to keep track of the wager being made at each stage of the game. Learning when to use the cube and how to play it to your advantage is a question commonly found at backgammon forums and in backgammon books written by advanced and experienced players. Tournament backgammon also has its own approach to using the doubling cube. So while mastering the instructions on backgammon can appear relatively simple, this one aspect can be tricky and potentially daunting for new players.

A worthwhile point to bear in mind is that you should start out playing against opponents who are at a similar level. A more advanced player will use the cube aggressively and take your money with little effort. As well as understanding the instructions on backgammon doubling thoroughly, you need to practise against evenly matched opponents to build your confidence levels before you try your luck in the big league.

Make sure you learn the general instructions on backgammon doubling. If you feel you are 65 percent likely to win a game, don't be afraid to offer the cube to your opponent. If you feel however that your game and your bank balance is likely to suffer if the stakes are increased, don't be afraid to refuse the cube. This means forfeiting the game but it could save you money in the long run.
