I got some good advice from a friend about a month ago about how to improve my backgammon game. I did what he suggested and sure enough, I’m playing much better than I have before! I thought I’d pass this advice along so everyone can use this great advice.
1. Practice with “bot” computer software - No matter how much you practice playing against real live opponents, nothing can beat the computerized backgammon software experience. Backgammon software will analyze your game, tell you what you are doing wrong and how you can improve! (This is probably the step that helped me the most!)
2. Read ALL the books you can get your hands on – There are a ton of books on the subject of backgammon. If you read only one you are getting only one side on the issue so read as much as you can to learn as many different strategies and points of view as possible.
3. Think about what you are doing – When you are playing the game don’t just move your pieces without any thought. Ask yourself why you are making certain moves and whether or not there is something better you could do.
4. Read online newsletters and forums – On forums like this and in newsletters you can find a wealth of current information and strategy and also can discuss ideas with other backgammon players who might have better ideas than your own.
Hopefully this advice will be as helpful to all of you as it was to me! |
