The rules governing moving the backgammon checkers are the same for the traditional backgammon board game and the new online versions of the game however, due to the difference between virtual and physical play the actions involved in moving checkers vary.
So lets begin with the backgammon regulations that describe how you go about moving the backgammon checkers around the board. First of all, checkers are moved in accordance with the result of a dice throw. The dice are in fact two die (dice is the plural) and each one of these indicates a separate move. Players are only allowed to move checkers forward, and they have to move them onto a point that is not occupied or only has a single checker positioned on it.
Landing on a point with where the opposing player has a single one of their checkers (called a blot) position, is called hitting the checker. This forces the removal of the checker to the bar, the ledge running down the center of the board. This is a key tactic in backgammon strategy. The rule is that a player has to move their checkers in accordance with the dice throw if possible i.e. that point is available.
While in the traditional game, moving the backgammon checkers is done by physically picking them up and moving them, in the online game moving the backgammon checkers is done by dragging and dropping them, or by clicking on them with the mouse. The right and left mouse buttons are used for different dice rolls, for example, a click on the right button may reflect the highest die, and the left button the lowest die. |
