Backgammon easy to learn. Once you understand the objective - to remove all your checkers from the board - all that's left to learn is how to use the backgammon dice.
In backgammon one pair of regular dice is used. These backgammon dice are used to advance your checkers around the board. There is also another die known as the doubling cube, used to up the stakes when you are playing for money or points.
To begin the game of backgammon, the regular backgammon dice are rolled - one by each player. The player who rolls the highest number of pips (dice points) is the winner and goes first, based on this dice roll. A player may choose to move one checker for each die or to move one checker the total roll amount. If a player rolls doubles the roll counts twice. They can move up to four checkers.
The doubling cube is numbered 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. This die is important to understand if you want to play for money or points. If a player sees that he is winning, he may choose to double the stakes. His opponent may accept the double or forfeit the game. If he chooses to accept he may double again later in the game. The doubling cube is simply used to keep track of this doubling.
Now that you understand how to use backgammon dice you are well on your way to playing the game of backgammon like a pro! |
