To consistently win backgammon games you must dominate the backgammon board completely, and leave your opponent with as little choices as possible. To do that, you must have a deep understanding of all the different tactics one can employ to gain an advantage on the backgammon board. Knowing how to strip a point in backgammon is one of those important tactics, and this article will discuss it.
When you know how to strip a point in backgammon, you can utilize your checkers in a much more efficient way, use less checkers to accomplish more tasks, and make the best of your backgammon strategy. As you probably know, when you have a point closed by your checkers, your opponent cannot land on it. By closing multiple carefully chosen points, you can take charge of the board, even to a point where your opponent is completely unable to move some, or even all, of his checkers. This slows down your opponent considerably, and allows you to accomplish your goals with the ease of a cool professional. But to do that, you must coordinate multiple closed points at one time, and still be able to advance some of your checkers home. That means each and every checker must pull his weight in an effective manner. Knowing how to strip a point in backgammon is a very effective means of maximizing your checkers impact on the backgammon board.
To dominate a point, and make it so enemy checkers cant pass through it, you must close the point. As long as it's closed, you can use it as a safe haven for your checkers as they travel through the board. But a point remains closed as long as it has only two of your checkers. That is why it's so important that you know how to strip a backgammon point. By advancing all but two of your checkers from a closed point, you strip that point from all but the essential checkers. That way, you can maintain complete control of the point with as little checkers as possible. You can still use it as a safe haven for friendly checkers, and prevent enemy checkers from landing on it, but you free up all those checkers that were just sitting around. Now you can use them to accomplish different tasks, such as closing additional points, reaching your base and capturing enemy checkers.
