Backgammon, a game that has been around for centuries, has had a recent growth in popularity since the game has been made available on the Internet. If you have noticed and want to get in on the fun, it’s easy! Even if you know nothing about the game you can learn how to play backgammon in no time.
The first thing to know when learning how to play backgammon is the objective of the game. A game of backgammon has two opposing players. Each player has fifteen checkers and the objective is to move all of their checkers to a quadrant of the board known as their home board and then to bear all of their checkers off of the board. To win, you must accomplish this task before your opponent. Backgammon checkers are moved along triangular points on the board according to the roll of two dice. A checker may not land on a point with two or more opposing checkers. If you land on a point with one opposing checker, called a blot, you send the checker off of the board to the bar where your opponent must roll to re-enter it into the game.
There are many more complicated rules when learning how to play backgammon, but these are enough to get you started. Now you can practice with friends who know how to play the game, or online. There are free software downloads that even offer tutorials on how to play backgammon and advise you on how you can improve your game! |
