I am new enough to the game of backgammon that I still consider myself a beginner. I know the basic rules of the game as well as some basic strategy (blocking and priming, stuff like that), though it is tough for me to implement the strategy which I guess will come with time and practice.
I am looking for resources to help me improve my game so that I can play at an advanced level. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

I think that the best suggestion for anyone who wants to improve their game (be it beginner, intermediate or expert) is to use backgammon software such as Snowie, GNU and Jelly Fish. These “bot” software programs are great because they will analyze your game while you play and give you suggestions for improvement, tell you what the best move in a specific situation is and teach you strategies and rules that you may not already know. Then you can practice again and again in games against the computer and watch your progress as you improve!
I had been playing backgammon for five years before I started using one of these programs and I thought I knew all that I could but I was amazed at how much my game improved! |

| Backgammon Bots are great teachers but I think that reading books by successful backgammon players help too. Magriel’s Backgammon is a great way to study the principals behind different strategies and how to advance your game from beginner to advanced. |
