If you're new to the game of backgammon, you may be unfamiliar with the rules surrounding backgammon gambling. How do you use the doubling cube to represent the backgammon stakes? And how do you increase the stakes when you think you have a good chance of winning the game?
There is little doubt that the introduction of the doubling cube in backgammon has made the game far more competitive and has injected it with a good deal of risk. Today the doubling cube is an integral part of the live and online game and many people simply won't play backgammon without it. The doubling cube is a six sided object similar in appearance to a die featuring the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. Its purpose in the game is to represent the backgammon stakes and keep track of them as they increase during a game.
The cube gives a player direct control over the backgammon stakes. If he wishes to double the existing wager on the game and is in possession of the cube, all a player needs to do is offer it to his opponent. He should do so if he believes he is in a stronger position than his opponent. To increase the backgammon stakes, the player turns the cube with the amount of the wager shown face up.
An opponent must accept the cube when offered it, thereby automatically increasing the backgammon stakes. If he refuses the cube, he will forfeit the game. For this reason, cube strategy involves doubling your opponent out by raising the stakes of the game to much higher levels. When you think that you can potentially win 64 times the amount of your initial wager, you can see why backgammon gambling is so thrilling, not to mention lucrative. |
