Download Backgammon SoftwareIf you have recently joined the world of online backgammon then you may have heard the term "anchor" being thrown around and wondered what this means. If you are not familiar with backgammon strategy or what an anchor is there is no need to worry. It is incredibly simple to learn the strategy of how to anchor in backgammon.

If you want to know how to anchor in backgammon you first have to know what an anchor is. An anchor is a made point inside of your opponent's home board. A made point is a point with two or more of your own checkers on it. Your opponent cannot land on these points. It can be a very good strategy to know how to anchor in backgammon because creating anchors in your opponent's home board can make it much more difficult for your opponent to enter all of his checkers and begin bearing off. The more anchors you build in your opponent's home board, the harder it will make things for your opponent.

You may be asking yourself how to anchor in backgammon when you only start the game with two checkers in your opponent's home board. This is enough to build one anchor, but if you want to build more than one then you will have to leave some blots around the board. By leaving checkers intentionally open you will trick your opponent into hitting you to the bar and then you can use them to work on building anchors. This is called building your backgame and can be a fantastic backgammon strategy.
