Are you ready to learn some simple backgammon rules? You can learn the basics here and test out your knowledge using a backgammon board at your own pace. It is simple to learn how the backgammon rules apply to a game. All you need to get started is a backgammon board, 30 checkers (two sets of 15 in different colors) and two precision dice. The dice will be used to transport your checkers around the board. The object of the game is to be the first player to move all your checkers into your home board area and then bear off (remove them from the board.) If you do this faster than your opponent, you are the winner.
According to backgammon rules, you can move your checkers to any free space on the board or a space that is home to one of your own or your opponent's checkers. If you land on a space occupied by your opponent's checker, you are "hitting it". This means that the checker is removed from the board and placed on the bar that separates the board in two. From there, it must be played back into the game by rolling the dice. As you may have guessed, hitting your opponent’s checkers is a vital piece of backgammon strategy as it slows his game down.
As well as backgammon rules, you will also need to learn backgammon strategy if you want to achieve any measure of success. Once you understand the basic rules, you can start improving your game by learning to think strategically about each move. This is what separates backgammon from games that rely purely on chance. So if you want to play a fun yet challenging game, backgammon is the game for you. |
