There are a few backgammon devices that you may not know about if you've never played backgammon for money. One of these devices is the doubling cube, which allows a player to up the stakes in a game of backgammon. Gambling on backgammon with the doubling cube can be a simple way to increase the excitement of your backgammon game.
A doubling cube is a backgammon die that is not numbered from one to six, as with the other backgammon dice. Rather, a doubling cube is numbered with 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. You may have noticed that each number is the double is doubled in order to get to the next highest number. That is because this cube is used to double the stakes in a backgammon game.
Backgammon begins at one point a game. Gambling on backgammon with the doubling cube raises the stakes so that the game will be worth more points. The first time a player doubles the game is worth two points, the second time a player doubles the game is worth four points and so on.
If a player decides he wants to try gambling on backgammon with the doubling cube, he sets the doubling cube down on 2. His opponent must decide either to accept or to forfeit the game for one point. If he accepts, he gains control of the doubling cube and can decide to redouble to four later in the game.
