Poker is poker is poker, you might say. But the truth is that no other form of poker is more popular than online holdem poker. Texas Hold'em is probably the most well recognized form of poker in the entire industry and it is interesting to see why, especially since it was almost unheard of before 1970.
It can be safely said that online holdem poker became so popular because of the exposure that it received through televised tournaments, the internet and even popular literature. It was around the turn of the century that 7-card stud was forced to take a backseat to the new star on the block - the community card game called Texas Hold'em. The game became even more popular when it was adopted as the official game of poker's most exciting tournament in the world, the World Series of Poker event.
Online holdem poker appealed greatly to internet gamblers who loved the idea of playing their favorite game from the comfort of their own home. The anonymity of the internet is very appealing and players can learn the game and advance at their own level with online holdem poker. The game can be played cheaply, without the inconvenience of finding a physical poker room every time a player feels like a game. The internet also allows players to try their luck at satellite tournaments and perhaps qualify for entrance into the WSOP event. What seemed like a trend has now turned to fact - Texas Hold'em poker is probably the most popular game at land-based and online poker rooms across the globe. |
