Several basic principals determine the direction of the backgammon game. First of all, backgammon checkers are always moved forward in the main version of the game. However, there are variations such as Narde, or the Russian version of backgammon, where the direction of the backgammon game is anti-clockwise.
Another basic element of the backgammon board game is that the direction of the backgammon game is determined in response to the throw of two standard die (dice is the plural). Each player is obliged to move their checkers according to the results of their dice throw, providing that it is legal for them to make this move. The value showed by each die has its corresponding checker move.
Checkers can only be moved onto points occupied by a lone checker, or blot, of the opposing player or a completely empty block. Players often aim to move their checker onto one of the opponent’s blots or hitting the blot, and it forces the blot’s removal to the bar. This is a popular way of hampering the opposing player in their efforts to bring all their checkers into their home area of the board prior to bearing them off in the closing stage of the game.
Although the direction of the backgammon game is exactly the same in the physical and virtual versions of the game, it is worth noting that in online backgammon checkers are moved by dropping and dragging them in accordance with the dice throw, or by clicking with the mouse. Each mouse button represents a die result. |
