Playing poker on the internet is not simply logging onto a casino site and getting down to a game. Today, there are many different variants of online poker games and a newcomer to online poker may be forgiven for being slightly baffled by the sheer range of choice available out there. We explain some of the differences between the more popular online poker games.
The most common forms of online poker games include Texas Hold'em, Omaha, 7-Card Stud, 5-Card Stud, Razz and Draw. Take Omaha as an example: Initially, this game reminds us of the traditional Texas Hold'em but small rule changes (eg. players are dealt four cards instead of two), means that the players suddenly have a lot more drawing possibilities. Another game, 7-Card Stud was the forerunner of Texas Hold'em in terms of popularity. It can be played only high or hi/lo split.
5-Card Stud poker is also popular in the world of online poker games and differs from 7-Card Stud by the fact that two cards are dealt - one up and one down - to the player. The betting rounds also differ. Razz is an exciting option for players who are looking for something a little different - poker players need to get the lowest possible hand instead of the highest. It is plain to see that new players need to take into account that it is not simply a matter of 'poker is poker'. They need to focus on learning one or two variants well before moving on to something new. |
