If you like to play backgammon for fun only, you won't mind winning some and losing some. However, if you’re in it in order to enjoy the benefits of winning some great extra cash, you will need to develop some strategies to help you win more games than you lose. One of the most important strategies that a backgammon player can learn is the concept of a backgammon prime. In fact, it can be safely said that blocking and priming in a backgammon game is one of the most important strategies of all.
Creating a backgammon blockade with your checkers against your opponent is something that you should be thinking about from your opening roll. You need to aim to build points without any gaps in between and place them strategically in front of your opponent’s checkers to prevent him from moving his checkers. You will usually build this blockade in the home section of the board to make it difficult - if not impossible - for the player to get out. So what is a backgammon prime and where does it come into the blocking strategy?
A backgammon prime is six points in a row, all occupied by your checkers. The backgammon prime is the ultimate blocking method and makes it literally impossible for your opponent to move anywhere. This is the kind of blocking technique that you should aim for, although it is not always possible to achieve. Skill and a bit of luck on the dice will go a long way in ensuring that your prime is successful. |
