I have a question about something that happened to me recently. Here’s the story. The community cards in the game were 7, 8, 9, j,Q One player has a 3 and a 10 giving that player the straight. The other player has A, 10 giving her the straight as well. Who wins this game? Or do they split the pot?
In most poker rules I have read, they state that the top 5 cards on the table, or the 5 card hand controls the victory. They also say that when two players have the same hand, the kicker determines who the winner is.
Now do you understand the dilemma? All the players argued about the matter and I just want to know who is correct? Remember no one at the table has a higher straight or hand. Is it split? Or kickers? |

Ok here is my opinion and I am sure it is correct in this matter. You need to keep in mind that none of the players have all five n the same suit in their straight. In this case it’s definitely a split situation. The highest 5 card hand for each player is the same. Kickers come into play only if both players have a high card, 1 pair, 2 pairs or trips. When you are talking about straights or flushes they aren’t generally referred to as a higher kicker that just gives the player a higher straight. |
