Hello, I hope that someone can give me a simple answer to a simple question. Say that I’m playing in a backgammon match and I reach a position where I throw a 4 and 5. If I play the four first, then the five is not available. However, if the five is played first, then there is no four available. So I guess my question is this: What do the backgammon rulebooks say about this position? Which moves should I use?

Good question! The backgammon rulebooks state that you should play the higher valued roll. As – in your case – five is the higher roll, that will have to be the number played. Hope this helps.
