Chess and backgammon are both board games which rely on strategy. I believe that backgammon involves more of a combination of strategy and chance, but that argument could be disputed by others. Chess and Backgammon are also similar because they are both old very classic, very popular games which are acknowledged all over the world.
Another thing similar about chess and backgammon is their boards have a classic design and familiarity to the mass population of the world. Chess board, pieces and backgammon boards are collected every where and greatly appreciated for the unique craftsmanship that goes into them. You often see unique furniture such as tables with a chess board or backgammon board on the table top. This is something you don't see with a monopoly board or another game which originated more recently. Both chess and backgammon have been around for years and years.
Another thing that makes these two games so classic is that they are language less. Yes there are names in every language for different moves etc, but you don't need a common language with your opponent to play. This is a beautiful thing because it brings players together from all over the globe. No wonder these two games never lost their massive followings. They are two games which are not only aesthetically beautiful to the eye, but they are strategic and come from ancient roots. I recommend a good game of chess or backgammon with friends any day, any time. |
