I think that making this poker move depends on the situation. You need to figure out who is raising, you need to try to determine how skilled that players is. You need to know their position and how strong my pair is and then I need to think about how many callers there are. A set hand in poker can often be a real money maker, especially when an Ace flops with your set.. For instance say I have 66 and the flop is A, J, 6. Also another way is if the raise amount is up there, like $2,50 or so, but then 3 other players call it. I think then I would go for it with a hand such as 33 or 44 because maybe I can get a big payout for this if it hits.
The thing is really that if you bet on a single roulette wheel this has a big payout as well. Think about that. The problem is that your long term odds are not there. I tried to calculate what kind of long term odds are favorable. The 5th player if it is in with a baby pair for $2.50 probably has a good bet if you and a lot of other players have tons of chips left.
Ok for every flop of AJ^ holding 66 being favorable AA +J J can beat you, AJ, KQ, KT, and QT these combos all have 4 outs. Odds are a flop with three different ranks can be two suited r singe suited putting out a flush or draw or it can be a made flush.
