Building Anchors: Backgammon Strategy 101 - This article will explain one of the most useful strategies in the game of backgammon. Establishing anchors in the game will provide you with a number of advantages over your opponent and, if your anchors are placed strategically enough, you could very well win the game. Building Anchors: Backgammon Strategy no. 1: Establish the anchors in the opponent’s home board. Firstly, this establishes a landing point for you if and when you get hit and, secondly, it does not let the opponent make his or her own home board.
Building Anchors: Backgammon Strategy no. 2: Deciding where to place your anchors is also an important decision in the game. Experts suggest that you should place your anchors adjacent to the bar (ie. points number 20 and 21) if it is early in the game. However, if you are far behind in the game, it will be more valuable to build your anchors on points 22, 23 and 24.
Building Anchors: Backgammon Strategy no. 3: A blot is an uncovered checker that is vulnerable to being hit by the opponent. Some experts recommend that you actually allow your blots to be hit (intentionally) early on in the game so that you can establish anchors easily. Another advantage to this move is that you buy valuable time and enjoy other benefits that come with being in this position on the board. Backgammon cannot be won on luck alone and learning this strategy - and others - will contribute to your skill level. |
