One of the most challenging and exciting parts about playing Blackjack is the period just after the game's first deal. Each player is holding two face up cards; the dealer has one face up and one face down card. Now it is time for players to decide what actions to take. Should they Hit to boost their card total closer to 21? What if they bust, going over 21? Should a player simply Stand with their total until the end of the game?
This critical decision is the primary risk of the Blackjack game. One of the most important Blackjack tips to learn is how to act in each Blackjack scenario. This technique is called Blackjack Basic Strategy, and it helps players know what their optimal card action is based on what both they and the dealer are holding.
The Basic Strategy offers players many helpful Blackjack tips, such as knowing when to simply Stand. In spite of Blackjack tips that recommend players to Stand, many players are tempted to Hit, which often causes them to bust. Busting is an automatic loss; Standing is a measured risk.
Here are some Blackjack tips about when to Stand in a game.
- If your in-hand total is between 17 and 20, Stand.
- If the dealer is holding a stiff card with a value between 2 and 6, and you have a total of 13 to 20, Stand.
- If your soft total is either A-8 or A-9, Stand. |
