An Ace is worth eleven points or one point—you decide what it will count as. A “blackjack” hand is a 2-card hand worth 21 points. The original blackjack consisted of the Ace of Spades and a Black Jack but may not consist of any Ace and any other card worth ten points.
Blackjack rules state that bets are placed before any cards are dealt. Betting limits are determined by the table at which you are playing. Some tables have maximum bet limits set while others are limitless. Make sure to play at a blackjack table with limits that are right for you.
Once bets are placed the game begins! The blackjack dealer deals two cards to each player, face up on the table. The dealer also takes two cards but places one face up and the other face down. Then each player decides what he or she would like to do. There are several options. The most common options are stand or hit. By standing, a player is choosing to remain with his or her initial 2-card hand. By hitting, a player is asking the dealer to give them another card in order to increase the value of their hand.
Blackjack instructions also include several less common options. These options are doubling down, splitting and surrendering. A player can double down on their initial 2-card hand which means that they double their bet and receive one additional card. This should be done when you think your chances of winning, or of the dealer busting, are high. You may also chose to split your initial 2-card hand, splitting it into two and playing each card as a separate hand. Some casinos also offer the opportunity to surrender, giving up only half of your bet to leave the game.
